April 1st, 2002, 11:17 p.m. - No kidding
Happy April Fools Day!
Quote of the day:
"Credits. Sing along, won't you? 'Skate! Surf! Glide! Or take a ta-xi ride! There is a place! To! Go! You fell behind? Oh! No!...Take! Your! Time! The bunching is! Su-blime! You'll catch up then! Don't take...too long...that would...be wrong...so wrong...Time! Has! Come! To shout out where! Phil's! From! New Zealand! [BOMP.]'"
April 3rd, 2002, 2:56 p.m. - I am 16 going on 17...
We picked lottery numbers for housing next year and my number is (drumroll, please) 16. I am so happy and relieved beyond relieved.
Current mood/state: see above
April 4th, 2002, 5:07 p.m. - Hey, baby
I had a dream last night that I was a lesbian. Anyone want to psychoanalyze that for me?
April 5th, 2002, 4:56 p.m. - Heh
I've been reading stuff at The Spam Letters and laughing my head off. It makes me want to respond to spam....
April 7th, 2002, 11:04 p.m. - Weirdness
Okay, I totally don't get this. Erin and I went to dinner with Bethany and she told us that her roommate Aubrey (who we kind of know) is going out with their roommate Jess' (who we know really well) brother. Aubrey's 18; her boyfriend is 25. They've been going out for about three weeks and Aubrey has spent every weekend except Easter weekend at his apartment. Apparently (not surprisingly) things are pretty tense in their room. Poor Bethany has to live with all of this. We told her she can come hang out with us any time she needs to. She can always move in with Rachel. :)
Current mood/state: tired (yeah, thanks for the time change)
April 9th, 2002, 11:02 p.m. - Dang it!
I freaked out this afternoon because EBSCOHost sucks so badly. I was doing research for a section of a group ed. psych paper and I got a few articles on my topic (the Canfield Learning Styles Inventory) at EBSCOHost on Saturday. I went back today and ONE OF THE ARTICLES WASN'T THERE. I have NO clue why they remove articles from the database, but they took the one that had the most info I needed. I was freaking ticked and about to throw my computer out the window. Fortunately, I had some notes and pieced things together; I also found some info in a couple of other articles. But I'm still not on speaking terms with EBSCOHost. I'm calling for a boycott. Who's with me?
Yeah, I know. Too much time and energy. Got it.
Current mood/state: tired and grateful that my paper is DONE
April 10th, 2002, 4:57 p.m. - Butterflies in my stomach
Housing selection starts in two hours; my time is around 7:30. Cross your fingers for me!
One month till my birthday!
Wow, I just got a surprise--Caroline is here visiting! (I don't think I mentioned before that she left a couple of weeks ago, right before Easter break.) Anyway, I heard her call my name on her way to my room and I thought, "Hmm, that sounds familiar...but that can't be her", and then she I saw her. It was very strange. She'll be here for Grow Group, which is pretty cool. It's nice to see her.
8:29 p.m. - Ho hum
Housing selection was running behind (the times are always screwed up; I didn't get in until around 8:20). I didn't get a room in the building I wanted but I did get a single, and it's right next door to Em, so I'll have a friend on the hall. Plus, Kirsten is going to be an RA and she and Ashlie are in the same building. At least I won't be completely bored out of my mind. Plus, I'm on a waiting list for the hall I wanted, so if something happens and someone miraculously decides not to live in Gallup, I can have a room there. (I really wanted Gallup because the singles have their own bathrooms, but in Hainer, the building I'm going to be in, I only have to share with about 10 or 12 others.) I'm still keeping my fingers crossed, just not as tightly as before.
April 11th, 2002, 12:02 a.m. - Poor sophomores
The housing process is all screwed up and around 80 people (including Kim and Amy) don't have rooms for next year. This whole place is messed up and there's really nothing anyone can do about it. I'm very glad I have a room, even if it's not where I really want to be.
Current mood/state: so-so
5:56 p.m. - Making do
Erin and I just went over to see where I'm living next year. When you go in the front door there's a little lounge area and a staircase going up to my floor--the banister makes it look like it's part of a house. Then you go down a short hallway and through a door on the left, and my room is the first door on the right. I'm happy that I don't have too walk too far--moving my things in won't be too difficult. And there are only about 9 other people on the hall, so it'll be quiet. I'm not too upset anymore about not getting into Gallup.
April 12th, 2002, 8:43 p.m. - Mafia!
I'm planning to catch part of the on-campus film festival with Rachel (and maybe some others) at 9, and then Leanne has organized a big ol' game of Mafia, so my evening is definitely booked. Yay!
Current mood/state: anticipatory
April 13th, 2002, 11:02 p.m. - Randomness
Rachel read in her physics book that if you crush a Wintergreen Lifesaver in a dark room, it gives off blue sparks. We tried it, and it really works. It's actually pretty cool. Yeah, we're definitely bored around here.
Current mood/state: bored, obviously
April 14th, 2002, 10:48 p.m. - Birthday girl
Happy Birthday, Ashlie!
April 16th, 2002, 7:43 p.m. - What the--?
From the Dean of Students in a letter dated April 15, 2002:
Dear Eastern University Resident Student,
As you are aware we are over subscribed for University Housing for the academic year, 2002-2003. In addition to having more people come through the process than ever before, we were anticipating that more upper-class students would choose to commute or to spend a semester elsewhere. [My note: In other words, "We screwed up. Royally."]
Here are some things you need to know:
1. If you are one of the students who selected a room and you are registered for classes for fall 2002, we have some incentive for you to give up your room and become a commuter. If you are among the first 50 students who request in writing (dated and signed) to the housing office that you wish to become a commuter and are willing to give up your room, we will give you a $200.00 incentive to help with your commuter housing deposit. [My note: Technically, they'll give you $100. That's $100 for housing and a $100 refund from your housing deposit. Also, $200 will get you jack in this town. Kim, Leanne, Laura, and Ryan are all getting an apartment together next year, and they're each paying $250 a month.]
2. If you deposited for housing by April 15th, 2002, are currently registered for classes for next fall, placed yourself on the housing waiting list, but have not secured a room yet, you may withdraw from the housing waiting list and receive $200.00 to help with your apartment/room deposit for commuter housing. [My note: Gee, thanks. You're so sweet!] You must put the request to withdraw from the housing waiting list in writing to the housing office.
3. AND MOST IMPORTANT: If you secured a room in the residence halls for next year you MUST be registered for classes or your room will be lost to someone who has registered and is on the waiting list for housing. Check to see if you are registered and if you are not, get registered IMMEDIATELY. The deadline was last week.
This $200.00 commuter housing incentive [My note: AKA Radnor Township's equivalent of a penny] is only available for students who currently have University Housing assignments (limited to the first 50 requests received) and are registered for classes at Eastern University for fall 2002, or are deposited, registered and were on the housing waiting list as of April 15, 2002. This option is NOT available for new deposits, or for those not registered for classes.
Dude.
April 17th, 2002, 11:56 p.m. - Okay...
Megan has announced that she's getting married in January and won't be returning to school. Um...congratulations, I think.
April 19th, 2002, 6:35 p.m. - Bring in the noise
Caroline is here for the weekend, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but when she's around things tend to get a little wild and crazy. So...we'll see how this goes.
April 21st, 2002, 12:53 a.m. - Sigh
Erin, Leanne, Kim, Caroline, and I were supposed to go to a drag show/AIDS benefit in Norristown but we couldn't find the place they were having it, so we just drove around for awhile and then wound up going to Chili's. Oh, well. I wish we could've seen drag queens.... :)
April 23rd, 2002, 11:32 p.m. - Things are looking up
Sing it with me: four more days of classes! Four more days of classes! And 17 till my birthday! 17 till my birthday!
