April, 2005

April 1st, 2005, 3:31 p.m. - Hee hee hee

The best April Fool's joke I've seen today: The Simpsons Archive turned everything backwards on their home page. I'm unbelievably amused.

April 4th, 2005, 12:29 a.m. - "Awards for Some, Miniature American Flags for Others"

I won't miss you, Ray and Deana.

April 5th, 2005, 12:31 a.m. - It's rantin' time

Okay. So. I write for this website, Reality News Online, where I recap reality TV shows. I've been doing this since last fall. This isn't news to most people, since I link to my recaps every week. But this part may be news to some people: sometimes I express... (gasp) opinions.

OH, NO! SAY IT ISN'T SO!

Yes, folks, I have opinions. I also have freedom of speech, thanks to the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Put those two together and you get the expression of views, such as reality show contestants I like, reality show contestants I don't like, and decisions made by both that I either like or dislike. When I sit down to write those recaps, I let my opinions roam free. Because I can.

Apparently, some people don't like this. They love to wake up on Monday mornings, read my recaps that were published first thing in the morning, and then start sending me e-mail about their take on my opinions. Most of the time, they respect me, even if they don't agree with me. There's absolutely nothing wrong with disagreeing with me. If everyone agreed with me, I'd get really scared. And then I'd have no one to debate with, which wouldn't be any fun.

But if I get one more rude e-mail from a reader who thinks I'm an idiot because I seem to favor one team on The Amazing Race over another, or who wonders why I'm condoning one team's behavior and condemning another's, or who just plain doesn't like the fact that a like a certain team, I'M GOING TO SCREAM.

Please, send me e-mails. Send me messages stating that you disagree with me. I welcome them. But if you're rude to me again, or act like you think you're better than me, or wonder if I have a screw loose, I might start hitting "delete" instead of "reply."

7:54 p.m. - "Pork Princess"

Nothing can stop my Simpsons references!

April 6th, 2005, 12:13 p.m. - Supercat

This is how smart my cat (who I've had for about a month now) is:

A couple of weeks ago, she used her claws to rip into a bag of cat food that was actually for our old cat, who died. Either the food or overeating made her sick, and since we didn't need the food and I didn't see the point in putting it in another container, I threw it away. A couple of days later, she ripped a hole in her bag of food and had herself a snack. So I bought one of those food dishes that can hold a bunch of food, then put the rest in a Tupperware container so she couldn't get to it. Last night, she knocked over the Tupperware container and the spout in the lid opened, so she had herself another snack.

Oy.

April 7th, 2005, 12:15 p.m. - Sigh

Darn you, Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck! (Dang, that's a long name.) I was counting on you to name your baby something ridiculously cutesy or trendy, like Elyssium or Stellina. Instead, you went for Grace Elisabeth. Darn yoooooooou! I have to approve!

April 8th, 2005, 12:19 a.m. - I covered The Apprentice!

"Get Me to the Presentation On Time" - Yeah, I think my summaries are going to be musical for the rest of the season. Hey, you try writing a bunch of summaries and then see how easy it is.

April 9th, 2005, 12:52 p.m. - Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition

Veronica Mars got renewed for a second season. My weekend has been made.

5:01 p.m. - Awww

Speaking of VM, its creator, Rob Thomas, and his wife recently had a baby, Greta Mae. I like the name Greta, and I think it sounds nice with Thomas. Congrats, awesome Rob Thomas!

April 11th, 2005, 1:37 p.m. - Articles, etc.

"O Brothers, Where Art Thou?"

"Poor Angie"

Oh, and Chris from The Apprentice got arrested. Why am I not surprised?

April 12th, 2005, 8:15 p.m. - Call social services

Apparently Brit-Brit is pregnant.

April 13th, 2005, 12:16 a.m. - Awww

Here's how you know you really like a boy:

• You go to great lengths to get his e-mail address so you can ask him out, even though you haven't asked a guy out for 7 years.
• You agree to go see a movie you're not even sure you want to see that much. (Note to self: read reviews of Fever Pitch to see if it's really as good as the critics say it is.)
• You sit around impatiently for 6 hours while he's at work, waiting for him to get home and e-mail you back.

I...fear I've said too much. :)

11:39 p.m. - This week rocks

So, I may be having THE BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE. First, on a purely superficial note, I found out Saturday (as I mentioned) that Veronica Mars was renewed for a second season. Then, I got myself a date. Then, I started e-mailing said date and getting to know him a lot better. Now, I have a job interview tomorrow. And, on another superficial note, tonight's Alias rocked. And on Friday, I get to have dinner with my brother and sister-in-law, who I rarely get to see and who also rock. Dude, everything rocks this week! (I'll overlook the fact that I won't get to see this week's Veronica Mars until Saturday. That'll just help cap off the great week.)

April 14th, 2005, 1:11 p.m. - Yay!

The movie just turned into dinner and a movie. That's good, right? :)

April 16th, 2005, 12:06 a.m. - Hooray for normalcy!

Nancy Kerrigan and her husband just had a baby, Brian. Their other son's name is Matthew. I'm so glad they went with normal names.

April 17th, 2005, 9:25 p.m. - Weekly article roundup

"Good Idea, Bad Idea"

"Cry Me a River"

April 20th, 2005, 12:03 a.m. - Second best? I think not

If last week was the best week of my life, this week is the second best, and just barely. On the theme of seconds, I have a second interview in 14 hours for the job I interviewed for last week. In addition, I'm about to get a second date. We're number two!

April 22nd, 2005, 12:20 a.m. - Baby stuff

Three new baby names:

Taylor Hanson's new daughter is Penelope Ann (or Anne). Um, okay. A little old-fashioned, but okay. Apparently they're going to call her Ellie, which is getting trendy, but is still okay.

Perry Shen's new daughter is Avery Anne. Avery? Really? Okay, then.

Dolores O'Riordan's new daughter is Dakota Rain. NO. NO NO NO NO NO. TRENDY NAMES FOR GIRLS MUST STOP.

April 23rd, 2005, 12:14 a.m. - Once again...

Amazingly, I can't think of any songs I hate right now, so, Songs I Love:
1. "24" (Jem) - It's almost haunting, which might be why I like it so much.
2. "Brighter Than Sunshine" (Aqualung) - If you really listen to the lyrics, it's such a sweet song.
3. "Home" (Marc Broussard) - So awesome.
4. "Sleeps with Butterflies" (Tori Amos) - So pretty!
5. "Life Less Ordinary" (Carbon Leaf) - When I first heard it, I thought it was just weird, but it's grown on me.
6. "Lonely No More" (Rob Thomas) - Yeah, I know, I know.
7. "Switch" (Will Smith) - No, I'm not sure why, either.

April 24th, 2005, 11:14 p.m. - You know it's roundup time

"If I Only Had the Nerve"

"No Risk"

April 27th, 2005, 4:54 p.m. - Ho hum

Can I be a professional parallel parker? It's something I can do pretty well. And it's not like there are a lot of people out there dying for that job, so I'd be assured the work. Seriously, people who are looking for someone to fill an unusual position - think about it.

April 28th, 2005, 12:04 a.m. - April is the cruellest month...

I didn't get the job I interviewed for, but I have an interview for a different job tomorrow. And I have a third date this weekend. Is this a weird month or what?

April 29th, 2005, 9:38 p.m. - April rocks!

The Boy must be good luck. I got the job I interviewed for this morning.

Let's overlook the fact that I've been out of school almost a year.

Oops, I'm supposed to be watching The Apprentice for RNO. I've missed about 15 minutes because I was celebrating. I'll have to catch the rerun on CNBC.
