April, 2026

April 2nd, 2026, 4:51 p.m. - Let's get produced

14. Escape! (Stephen Fishbach)
I'll admit that I kept my expectations low, and though this exceeded them, it still had a lot of issues. The beginning and end were strong, but man, that middle. I'd be interested to read something else by Fishbach, though, as long as the topic is totally different.

Up next: Adult Braces (Lindy West)

April 8th, 2026, 6:01 p.m. - "Kokomo is real. It just might not be where you think"

15. Adult Braces (Lindy West)
Well, that was...unexpected. This was my least favorite of West's books, but still pretty good. I think she tackled too many subjects for one book.

Up next: This Story Might Save Your Life (Tiffany Crum)

April 14th, 2026, 5:22 p.m. - Two thumbs up (this is a Fonzie reference, not a Siskel and Ebert reference)

16. This Story Might Save Your Life (Tiffany Crum)
Off the premise, I had no idea that I would like this book as much as I did. Excellent twists, terrific pacing, and a friendship between the two main characters that felt realistic. One of my favorites of the year.

Up next: The Girls Before (Kate Alice Marshall)

April 22nd, 2026, 6:10 p.m. - Stranger things, or: The Hills Have Eyes

17. The Girls Before (Kate Alice Marshall)
Another hit from Marshall. She just keeps getting better. I appreciated the epilogue, which clarified a major plot point, but I actually would have been okay with the ending being left more ambiguous.

Up next: Out of the Loop (Katie Siegel)

April 30th, 2026, 5:54 p.m. - Tell Genevieve I said hi

18. Out of the Loop (Katie Siegel)
This was fun! Maybe a little too much talking instead of making progress on solving the mystery, but still, fun.

Up next: Writers and Liars (Carol Goodman)
