August, 2016
August 2nd, 2016, 8:07 p.m. - I hope the dog wound up okay
20. The Last One (Alexandra Oliva)
Up next: The Husband's Secret (Liane Moriarty)
August 6th, 2016, 2:23 p.m. - B.D. WONG AGAIN! YAY!
UnREAL – "Espionage": Thank God this season is almost over, because I can't stomach these people anymore. Rating: 3 pieces of sushi
Mr. Robot – "eps2.3logic-b0mb.hc": If they made this show just Whiterose and Dom, I would watch the heck out of it. Well, really, I'd watch if it was all Whiterose, all the time. Rating: 3 clocks
August 11th, 2016, 10:07 p.m. - This definitely needs a sequel
21. The Husband's Secret (Liane Moriarty)
Up next: Truly Madly Guilty (Liane Moriarty)
August 13th, 2016, 1:25 p.m. - "True love. Who gets that?"
UnREAL – "Friendly Fire": This show went downhill so fast, it's kind of amazing. I'm not sure I'll be back for season 3. They'll have to really step things up to win me back. Rating: 3 crashed cars
Mr. Robot – "eps2.4m4ster-s1ave.aes": The first 15 minutes might be the weirdest thing I've ever seen on TV. And keep in mind that I've seen every episode of Supernatural, so I'm counting "The French Mistake." And it's not that the heisty hack stuff was boring or anything, but why couldn't Mobley and Trenton be more involved? They're great. Rating: 4 turkey sandwiches
August 20th, 2016, 1:19 p.m. - So...that happened
Mr. Robot – "eps2.5h4ndshake.sme": The theory about Elliot being in an institution or in jail has been floating around all season, so the reveal didn't surprise me much. It makes a lot of sense. Does this mean he killed Tyrell? Can we have a confirmation of Tyrell's status either way? Because if he's gone, I won't miss him, but I'd like to get it squared away. Rating: 3 letters with good news
August 22nd, 6:23 p.m. - Shut up, Sylvia
22. Truly Madly Guilty (Liane Moriarty)
Up next: Good as Gone (Amy Gentry)
August 26th, 10:58 p.m. - I read this in four days, so that should tell you something
23. Good as Gone (Amy Gentry)
Up next: Harmony (Carolyn Parkhurst)
August 27th, 2016, 11:56 a.m. - "This is some traumatizing s&%$, you know that?"
Mr. Robot – "eps2.6succ3ss0r.p12": I loved the structure of this episode. It also included the second-best music choice of the season (Phil Collins in the season premiere will remain the best, no matter what). Please don't hurt Trenton, bad people. She only deserves the best. Rating: 5 tasers
A very strong debut with an interesting premise I would have never come up with. I'm not sure how necessary it was to have the plot go back and forth between past and present, third person and first person. But I really liked it.
Me for the first 358 pages: "This is pretty good. Not as good as Big Little Lies, but I like it." Me on page 359: "HOLY CRAP. WHAT JUST HAPPENED?" And that's why I keep reading Moriarty's books.
I didn't like this one as much as the previous two, but it was still a good read. I would have liked a more scandalous event for the story to revolve around, though.
Another solid debut for the month. The ending was...not great, but everything else worked really well, especially with half of the plot moving backwards (though that was a little confusing). Gentry is a pacing expert.
