I didn't get the hype on this. It's not Mandel's best. I just couldn't get into it.
There were too many characters in this, and I couldn't figure out who was important to the plot and who wasn't. One of the mysteries was impossible to solve, and I had a hunch about the other. The story's mostly fine, but not very satisfying.
I called most of the twists, and the big one I didn't call seemed unnecessary to me. Not my favorite of Hillier's.
I wanted to go back in time, grab the manuscript for this book, and make a bunch of edits that could have made it better. But despite the flaws, I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
