August, 2022

August 5th, 2022, 4:54 p.m. - The Paradox Hotel really raised the bar for time-travel stories for me

34. Sea of Tranquility (Emily St. John Mandel)
I didn't get the hype on this. It's not Mandel's best. I just couldn't get into it.

Up next: The Last to Vanish (Megan Miranda)

August 13th, 2022, 2:31 p.m. - At least this was better than Miranda's last one

35. The Last to Vanish (Megan Miranda)
There were too many characters in this, and I couldn't figure out who was important to the plot and who wasn't. One of the mysteries was impossible to solve, and I had a hunch about the other. The story's mostly fine, but not very satisfying.

Up next: Thing We Do in the Dark (Jennifer Hillier)

August 20th, 2022, 11:52 a.m. - August has been a disappointing month, book-wise

36. Things We Do in the Dark (Jennifer Hillier)
I called most of the twists, and the big one I didn't call seemed unnecessary to me. Not my favorite of Hillier's.

Up next: The Atlas Six (Olivie Blake)

August 31st, 2022, 8:06 p.m. - "F&%$ it. Let's be gods"

37. The Atlas Six (Olivie Blake)
I wanted to go back in time, grab the manuscript for this book, and make a bunch of edits that could have made it better. But despite the flaws, I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.

Up next: Girl, Forgotten (Karin Slaughter)
