August 3rd, 2024, 11:57 a.m. - One too many twists, I think

31. Missing White Woman (Kellye Garrett)
Garrett has a habit, at least in this book, of telegraphing things that are meant to be important in a way that's too unsubtle (except for one thing that was mentioned twice that I thought would be important but wasn't). Then other things got glossed over. I will still read more by Garrett, but this wasn't one of hers that I'll remember fondly.

Up next: The Lost Story (Meg Shaffer)

August 11th, 2024, 4:32 p.m. - We get it, you love West Virginia

32. The Lost Story (Meg Shaffer)
This was close to being perfect, but I think the stuff with Rafe's father was too thin in the first half to have the full impact Shaffer was looking for in the second half. That said, this had wonderful characters and a compelling story. It made me want to read more magical books.

Up next: Middle of the Night (Riley Sager)

August 16th, 2024, 7:59 p.m. - I tried to find a gif of Joe Gatto saying, "Ghooooooosts," but I couldn't

33. Middle of the Night (Riley Sager)
Sooooo sloooooow. And there wasn't enough information given to figure out who the killer was. That said, I thought the ending was really satisfying. P.S. I want to hang out with Henry.

Up next: Shadowheart (Meg Gardiner)

August 25th, 2024, 5:00 p.m. - Whoever wrote the jacket copy didn't read the book

34. Shadowheart (Meg Gardiner)
This took way too long to get going, and even then, it wasn't one of Gardiner's best. I can't believe I hate to wait four years for this.

Up next: The Year of Living Constitutionally (A.J. Jacobs)
