December, 2021

December 5th, 2021, 2:16 p.m. - This book is not about what it thinks it's about

55. Reprieve (James Han Mattson)
This is definitely an "I could have written this better" book. Disappointing.

Up next: Falling (T.J. Newman)

December 11th, 2021, 3:42 p.m. - Seriously, Middle Eastern terrorists? In 2021? SERIOUSLY?

56. Falling (T.J. Newman)
This is a Michael Bay moving in book form. That is not a compliment. Intriguing premise, ridiculous execution.

Up next: We Are All the Same in the Dark (Julia Heaberlin)

December 18th, 2021, 2:06 p.m. - Heaberlin sure likes flowers

57. We Are All the Same in the Dark (Julia Heaberlin)
It took me a while to get my hands on a copy of this, and it was definitely worth the wait. Just as I started complaining that there weren't enough suspects and it was too hard to figure out who the killer was, Heaberlin hit me with a twist I didn't see coming.

Up next: The Turnout (Megan Abbott)

December 25th, 2021, 2:11 p.m. - Please stop talking about people's feet

58. The Turnout (Megan Abbott)
This is fine, but it gets gross and weird. Too weird for me.

Up next: Rabbits (Terry Miles)

December 31st, 2021, 2:34 p.m. - Out with a bang, and the 15th Annual Year-End Book Round-Up

59. Rabbits (Terry Miles)
This was really fun. There was a little too much telling instead of showing, but the story itself is great. This would make a good limited series.

Up next: The Inheritance of Orquídea Divina (Zoraida Córdova)
