February, 2018

February 3rd, 2018, 2:01 p.m. - "Whatever they're talking about, if there's a shotgun, I call shotgun"

America's Next Top Model – [No episode title, apparently]: Yeah, sure, Liz, go ahead and pretend you're not emotionally able to handle living with those people. That's toooootally what's going on here. Whatever, she was never going to win. Rating: 3 times I said, "Wait, who's Kyla?"

The X-Files – "Ghouli": This was a solid, creepy episode. It also reminded us why Gillian Anderson has an Emmy. Rating: 4 snow globes

Supernatural – "Various and Sundry Villains": Oh, hey, Rowena, who I never thought was really dead. Welcome back. Next time, could you let us see a little more of Dean under the effects of a love spell? That was fun. Thanks. Rating: 4 hex bags

The Good Place – "Somewhere Else": This was definitely not where I saw things going, but then again, I never know where things are going on this show. I trust that Mike Schur will make it great, whatever happens next. Rating: 4 kisses between two people whose relationship makes no sense to me, but whatever

February 4th, 2018, 3:25 p.m. - Teenaged girls are awful, but adults are even worse

5. Bonfire (Krysten Ritter)
I was impressed with how good a writer Ritter is. This was excellently paced, and the climax was actually suspenseful. (And gross. Ugh.) Now I need to watch Jessica Jones.

Up next: Into the Black Nowhere (Meg Gardiner)

February 10th, 2018, 1:23 p.m. - "Oh, yay, a Skinner episode!" said no one ever

America's Next Top Model – "Beauty Is Unconventional": Well, now I don't want Rio to win. And if she keeps up that attitude, she won't. Also, why are we pretending that Christina's hair is okay? She looks like she fell asleep while babysitting and the kids colored her hair with a yellow highlighter. Rating: 4 looks of horror I gave Ashley's panel outfit

The X-Files – "Kitten": No one cares about Skinner, so I was never going to love this episode. But it was better than some of the stuff from season 10, so at least it wasn't a total loss. And Haley Joel Osment did a great job. Rating: 3 pit traps

Supernatural – "Devil's Bargain": There were some interesting developments in this episode, but it moved too slowly for me to be that interested. That ending, though... Rating: 3 chicken wings

February 11th, 2018, 3:38 p.m. - Gardiner's best yet

6. Into the Black Nowhere (Meg Gardiner)
I will be waiting impatiently for the third in this series. It's also supposed to become a TV show, and I look forward to that as well. I always enjoy Gardiner's books, but this one was especially good.

Up next: The Immortalists (Chloe Benjamin)

February 17th, 2018, 1:28 p.m. - I should probably watch Drag Race, huh?

America's Next Top Model – "Beauty Is Pride": Yeah, I fear for Liberty's future, too, and not just...you know, in the world in general. She's going to have to change her views if she wants to be a model, or at least learn to keep quiet. No one's going to put up with the way she sees people who are different from her. Rating: 4 Caitlyn Jenner jackets

February 18th, 2018, 9:03 a.m. - I'd rather read a book about Ruby

7. The Immortalists (Chloe Benjamin)
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. Klara and Varya's sections were good; Simon's was predictable and Daniel's was disappointing. The hype about this book is a little overblown.

Up next: Stories I'd Tell in Bars (Jen Lancaster)

February 24th, 2018, 1:27 p.m. - This is really Krystyana's competition to lose, isn't it?

America's Next Top Model – "Beauty Is Raw": What a weird episode. Krystyana's over here having a breakthrough about a childhood trauma, Brendi's having a crisis of self-confidence, Erin's working through guilt and grief...and Christina's just being annoying. At least we don't have to look at her hair anymore. Rating: 3 cheers for another appearance by Stacey McKenzie

February 27th, 2018, 9:47 p.m. - Breaking news: I still want to be friends with Jen Lancaster

8. Stories I'd Tell in Bars (Jen Lancaster)
This book should have been 100 pages longer. 200, even. WRITE MORE STUFF, JEN.

Up next: We Are Never Meeting in Real Life (Samantha Irby)
