4. Five Bad Deeds (Caz Frear)
This was 350 pages of the slowest slow burn ever, followed by 50 pages that were well-written but ultimately just a bunch of telling instead of showing. Verdict: Eh.

5. Chain-Gang All-Stars (Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah)
So dark and heavy. It's hard to describe. It's like The Hunger Games for people who want something even more disturbing.

6. No One Can Know (Kate Alice Marshall)
Because if they'd just checked [spoiler]'s hands for gunshot residue, they would have solved half of the mystery and would have jumped to a reasonable conclusion for the second half. But apparently no one thought of that. And while this book was mostly good, it wasn't good enough for me to overlook that giant plot hole.
