February, 2026

February 1st, 2026, 7:41 p.m. - Slouching toward bedlam

5. Voluntary Madness (Norah Vincent)
For a book about a topic I find really interesting, this was pretty dull. I think I was mostly put off by Vincent's attitude toward mental health conditions and even her own mental health. There wasn't enough meat here.

Up next: If Two Are Dead (Rick Mofina)

February 8th, 2026, 5:14 p.m. - I sunk-cost-fallacied myself into finishing this when I didn't really want to

6. If Two Are Dead (Rick Mofina)
This was SO SLOW. It felt like it took a month to read. I might still be reading it, actually.

Up next: Detour (Jeff Rake and Rob Hart)

February 15th, 2026, 3:46 p.m. - A+ concept, B- execution

7. Detour (Jeff Rake and Rob Hart)
The big plot development that's, like, the point of the book doesn't happen until more than halfway through. Unacceptable.

Up next: The Murder Show (Matt Goldman)

February 21st, 2026, 3:56 p.m. - You're telling me a show called The Murder Show is a hit in this universe?

8. The Murder Show (Matt Goldman)
Again, a good concept with less-than-stellar execution. Also, Goldman is anoher unfortunate victim of Can'tstopusingcharacters'fullnamesitis. We must find a cure!

Up next: Paper Cut (Rachel Taff)
