January, 2004

January 1st, 2004, 12:29 a.m. - It's gonna be a Happy New Year

Happy 2004!

10:46 p.m. - Mmmmmmazda

I'm thinking of getting this.

Don't you want me, baby?

January 2nd, 2003, 7:14 p.m. - Looking ahead

Friday Five:

What one thing are you most looking forward to...

1. ...today? Watching Arrested Development

2. ...over the next week? Getting things squared away with my NEW CAR

3. ...this year? Finding some direction for my future

4. ...over the next five years? Getting a good job and possibly finding a nice guy

5. ...for the rest of your life? That's a good question... :)

Did I mention I got a new car? It's a 2002 Mazda Protegé and I love it. I'm just glad to have a car again!

I'm pretty. Love me.

January 3rd, 2003, 5:04 p.m. - 22 kisses or 22 spanks, you decide

Happy Birthday, Beppe!

January 10th, 2003, 1:13 a.m. - Brrrrr

It's 4 degrees in Pennsylvania. And in two days I have to go back there. Oh, boy, will that be fun....

8:31 p.m. - Staples is my new enemy

You know you're a writer when you go to the only store that sells your favorite pens and you freak out when they don't have them. Stupid Staples.

January 13th, 2004, 10:54 p.m. - The final semester countdown begins

Oh, yeah. Classes. They started yesterday. I've been going to them. That's about it.

Okay, fine. Mondays and Fridays I have Introduction to Philosophy, which I signed up for before realizing it was the same class Dan was complaining about last semester. The professor seems cool and I'm into the whole intellectual thinking thing, so I'll try to hang in there.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I have Senior Writing Seminar, which is a) all seniors, b) all writing majors, and c) strangely, all girls. I'm very excited about it. It's going to be a lot of work, but I think I know what to expect, and it's the kind of work I'm going to want to do - writing.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I have Modern British Literature. It's going to be...tedious. I had the professor last spring (he's also my advisor) and he assigns a LOT of reading. But I'll get by.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I also have what's called the Love Capstone. Capstones are classes that focus on one specific topic or area of study for an entire semester; everyone here is required to take at least one. Last semester I took a reading seminar, which turned out to be my favorite class. The Love Capstone focuses on love as discusses by various philosophers and in different literature. I've heard the professor is great; he seemed like a lot of fun. And Dawn's in the class, so I'll have someone to discuss stuff with.

You know, I could've gotten out of here last semester....

January 16th, 2004, 1:09 a.m. - Quote obsession

Possibly the most bizarre Friday Five I've done so far:

1. What does it say in the signature line of your emails? Nothing.

2. Did you have a senior quote in your high school yearbook? What was it? If you haven't graduated yet, what would you like your quote to be? Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we cannot see."

3. If you had vanity plates on your car, what would they read? If you already have them, what do they say? I have no idea.

4. Have you received any gifts with messages engraved upon them? What did the inscription say? My neighbor gave me a little thing to hang on the wall that says "bloom where you are planted".

5. What would you like your epitaph to be? Probably the same as my senior quote.

January 23rd, 2004, 12:46 a.m. - Living in the moment

Oops, I let a week go by again. I guess you can see how exciting my life is(n't) right now. Here's the Friday Five:

At this moment, what is your favorite...

1. ...song? I can never pick just one. :) Right now I really like Pink's "God is a DJ", Default's "Taking My Life Away", Staind's "So Far Away", Kelly Clarkson's "The Trouble with Love Is", and Maroon 5's "This Love". (Can you tell I'm a Top 40 junkie?) I also love "Time" by Chantal Kreviazuk (who you've probably never heard of). And, as usual, I listen to Michelle Branch a lot.

2. ...food? Microwave popcorn and Reese's peanut butter cups. (No, not together.)

3. ...TV show? The usuals - Alias, Joan of Arcadia, Scrubs, and, of course, Buffy (thank goodness for DVDs and reruns).

4. ...scent? Cucumber melon.

5. ...quote? I guess it's the quote I currently have in my profile for Buffy Trivia: "And remember, if you hurt her, I will beat you to death with a shovel. A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend." (Willow to Riley, "The Initiative")

So, for my Senior Writing Seminar I have to write a 25-40 page fiction piece (sort of a fictional thesis, if you will). I figured that this would be a good place to talk about my progress and/or complain about lack of progress. I might even post some of my stuff, so stay tuned.

10:02 p.m. - The wonder that is Walmart

So, tonight I ran into Cathy, Ashlie, and Meg (from Cathy's hall last semester) at dinner and wound up spending about 5 hours with them. We were in the cafeteria until about 6:45 (which was insane), then headed over to Walmart. You have to understand that the closest Walmart is 20-30 minutes away, yet people go over there all the time from our school because it's huge and you can get everything there. We spent a couple of hours there and headed back around 9:30. On the drive back Ashlie (who was driving) suddenly saw flashing lights behind us and said, "Is that a cop?" We had no idea, but we figured she should pull over just in case. There was no place to pull over on the road, so she turned onto another street and pulled over to the side. As we're trying to figure out what she could have possibly done that was against the law, we saw a pickup truck with flashing lights drive by us. And that was the funniest moment of my week.

January 24th, 2004, 12:14 a.m. - Flashy flashy

Oh, I almost forgot. (How could I?) Last summer Stacy and I were talking about how we wished they made shoes for adults that lit up (like those kids' shoes that light up when they walk). Well, guess what? They do. And I bought some. I bought sneakers that LIGHT UP. Just another step in my plan to be a little kid forever.

January 27th, 2004, 12:02 a.m. - Can't feel my fingers anymore

This school charges $12,000 a semester and then puts us in dorms where we can't control the heat. What the--? I'm freezing!

January 30th, 2004, 12:03 a.m. - Brother, can you spare a dime?

Friday Five:

You have just won one million dollars:

1. Who do you call first? My parents and Beppe.

2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself? Knowing myself, I would probably buy books. Nothing flashy or expensive - just something I want.

3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else? Depends what they want and how absurd I think his/her suggestion is.

4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom? Definitely. What would I do with a million dollars? I'd either pick one charity and give it a bunch or pick a few charities and give them each some money.

5. Do you invest any? If so, how? I might. I'd probably ask my parents what they thought were the best stocks to invest in.
