July, 2002

July 1st, 2002, 2:07 p.m. - Grrrr

Stupid job won't give me my money. I've worked for a month and haven't seen one paycheck because the paperwork was all screwed up and the people don't seem to care that I should be getting paid for what I'm doing. Grumble grumble....

4:02 p.m. - Happiness

I just got my DVD! Wow, I only ordered it 6 days ago. Nice!

July 4th, 2002, 11:05 a.m. - Fireworks

Happy 4th!

July 7th, 2002, 10:53 a.m. - Kiddies!

Vacation Bible School starts tomorrow. I adore VBS. I can't remember if I liked it this much when I was a kid, but I love teaching and helping out now. I'm working with third graders for about the fifth or sixth year (which is strange, because I've only been working at VBS for 8 years), and this year the third grade director is this really cool woman I sometimes baby-sit for. So I'm very excited for this week, despite the fact that I could stay with my four-year-olds and get paid. Instead, I'm just volunteering. Don't worry, I've already been told that I'm crazy.

July 9th, 2002, 12:57 p.m. - I want money. That's what I want

PAYCHECK!

July 11th, 2002, 3:22 p.m. - Serendipity

I got Julia Alvarez's In the Time of the Butterflies from the library last month and then decided I didn't want to read it. Yesterday I hunted down my reading list for Post-Colonial Women Novelists next semester and In the Time of the Butterflies is on it, so now I have to read it. Woo. Hoo.

July 13th, 2002, 1:27 p.m. - Heh

Overheard during VBS...

Kim, 3rd grade director: "I want emotion! I want feeling! I want passion!"
Brenda, 3rd grade teacher: "Yes, Spielberg."

"Instead of 'Jesus' say 'hay-soos', because that's how you say it in Portuguese. And we are, as you all know, in Portugal."--Ryan, music leader

"Do people who steal from churches go to extra-special Hell?"--Tina, 4th grade teacher

Kim: "Here are your scripts. Just put them in your pocket, or you can set them down on the table and lose them, like I do."
(The next day)
Kim: "Do you have your script?"
Whitney, 3rd grade helper: "You know that thing you said about putting it down and losing it? Yeah, I did that."

"It's a Christmas miracle!"--Tina

July 15th, 2002, 2:35 p.m. - Happy faces

The people at David's Bridal are all too cheerful. I think they're all on Prozac.

2:37 p.m. - Clarification

No, I'm not getting married. I'm ordering a bridesmaid's dress for my brother's wedding.

July 17th, 2002, 5:17 p.m. - Babies and kiddies!

Congrats to Elissa, who's pregnant with her second child. Yay!

You know, going to the zoo at the age of 20 is just as much fun as going to the zoo at the age of 5. We took the kids to the zoo today and all of us had a great time. (I love the small mammal house, by the way.)

Current mood/state: tired and happy
Temperature outside: DC suburb + July = code red day (i.e. hot)
Song stuck in head: "Full of Grace" (Sarah McLachlan) because I just watched Becoming, Part 2 on my Buffy season 2 DVD--sniff!

July 18th, 2002, 9:35 p.m. - Better than the Rainforest Cafe

We went back to the zoo today (with a different group of kids) and saw a few different things, which was nice. My new favorite place is Amazonia, and I've decided I want to live in the rainforest. Of course, I'll have to have a satellite dish and Internet access, but I'll be very happy. :)

July 20th, 2002, 3:09 p.m. - New toys

Goodbye, piece of junk emachine! After three years of surprise restarts, little memory, and freezing Internet, I have bought a laptop and am getting rid of the stupid computer I'm using right now. The next time you hear from me, this thing will be in the dumpster. WOO-HOO!

July 22nd, 2002, 12:41 p.m. - Yikes

I'm basically taking over my class this week because Stacy's husband's grandmother died suddenly and they have to go to North Carolina for the funeral and everything. So now I'm kind of, you know, in charge. Which is scary. Hey, as long as all the kids are still alive at the end of the week, I'll consider this a success.

The new computer is up and running. Happiness!

July 24th, 2002, 12:50 p.m. - Itchy itchy

I. HATE. MOSQUITOES. We took the kids to a nature center today and, even though we all had on bug spray, we all got bitten. I was attacked the worst. I'm suing that bug spray company!

July 25th, 2002, 9:37 p.m. - Please?

Beppe and I are possibly going to see the third Austin Powers movie tomorrow night. If it sucks, you will hear me scream really loudly.

July 26th, 2002, 8:40 a.m. - Birthday girls

Happy Birthday, Jenny and Erin! I wonder what the odds are of having two friends with the same birthday.

July 27th, 2002, 12:09 a.m. - Hooray!

Beppe and I just saw Austin Powers 3, and it's 10 times better than I thought (and feared) it would be. I laughed the whole time. So, yay!

July 29th, 2002, 9:42 p.m. - I need a new job

I spent the entire morning saying "don't" to various small children. Does that seem wrong to anyone else?

July 31st, 2002, 10:43 p.m. - Yay!

Aaron comes to Falls Church tomoooooooorrow....
