July, 2015

July 4th, 2015, 1:36 p.m. - Rock on, Jack Crawford

So You Think You Can Dance – Vegas, part 1: Yay, Vegas! And a lot of my favorites are still in! It's really summer now, guys! Rating: 4 no-nonsense medics who will not let you ruin your dance career

Hannibal – "Contorno": I thought I was going to fall asleep during the first half hour. I was very happy to be awake for the second half hour. I was going to give this episode a 3, but I'm adding in an extra just for the awesome Jack/Hannibal fight. Rating: 3 grappling hooks

July 5th, 2015, 11:12 p.m. - The Jennifer Effect

20. Dietland (Sarai Walker)
I have to say, the idea of a feminist terrorist group with my name is pretty cool. It would have been cooler with more plot development and less of an anticlimax, though.

Up next: The Fixer (Joseph Finder)

July 11th, 2015, 11:08 a.m. - Better luck next year, Christine and Kenya

So You Think You Can Dance – Vegas, part 2: I'm pretty happy with this year's dancers. A bunch of my favorites made it, and the ones who weren't my favorites are still great. I'm sorry that Kenya and Christine didn't make the cut, but a) they could easily come back in the future, and b) with someone already out with an injury, one of them could easily come back right now. I'm still not sold on the format of this season, but I'm looking forward to the performances. Rating: 4 minutes I spent trying to remember how to spell Yorelis' name

July 15th, 2015, 8:19 p.m. - Dear Rick, YOU ARE DUMB

21. The Fixer (Joseph Finder)
I was all excited about this book after I read the first few chapters, but it went downhill after that. What a dumb protagonist. If you find a bunch of money and don't know who it belongs to, DON'T START SPENDING IT. That's how you get your legs broken.

Up next: Lights and Sirens (Kevin Grange)

July 18th, 2015, 2:33 p.m. - It's only the first week of performances and I'm already sick of Nigel

So You Think You Can Dance – Top 20 perform: I really liked Ariana, Virgil, and Yorelis' performance. I always appreciate getting to see the dancers in their own styles before they start taking on new ones, so we can see why they were selected for the finals. And now it's time for things to get messy. Rating: 4 times I glared at Nigel

July 21st, 2015, 6:15 p.m. - I sped through this like an ambulance, har har

22. Lights and Sirens (Kevin Grange)
A super-detailed account of Grange's nine months in paramedic school. I would last two minutes there, if that. It's 100 times harder than you would expect.

Up next: The Nurses (Alexandra Robbins)

July 25th, 2015, 2:06 p.m. - Jaja + Jim = magic

So You Think You Can Dance – Top 20 perform and two go home: There were a couple of trainwrecks, and I'm not sure about the three- and four-person groups as opposed to pairs, but this was a good start. I wish we knew more about the dancers personally, though. Rating: 4 see-saws
