June, 2012
June 9th, 2012, 3:06 p.m. - Three awesome vacation reads
18. Top of the Rock (Warren Littlefield)
19. The Invisible Ones (Stef Penney)
20. Let's Pretend This Never Happened (Jenny Lawson)
Up next: Gone Girl (Gillian Flynn)
June 10th, 2012, 5:39 p.m. - Guess what, Brittany? No one will ever remember your name. From now on, you're Chicken Girl
So You Think You Can Dance - Atlanta auditions: Enjoy it while you can, because I think you're going to get eaten alive in Vegas. Eaten...like a chicken! Womp womp.
June 11th, 2012, 6:14 p.m. - So I married a sociopath
21. Gone Girl (Gillian Flynn)
Up next: Rereading The Magicians (Lev Grossman)
June 16th, 2012, 4:39 p.m. - I'm glad that Johnny guy is gone, because I wouldn't have been able to take him all summer
So You Think You Can Dance - Salt Lake City auditions: Hi, Dareian. Please make yourself comfortable and stay awhile. I would like to continue to see you on my TV every week. And not just because you're so pretty. Rating: 4 cheers for Leroy the breaker
June 23rd, 2012, 3:07 p.m. - Where's Dareian??
So You Think You Can Dance - Vegas callbacks: They should have let Danielle dance for her life. That's one of my very few problems with the show - they're not consistent with their second chance. (I'm still bitter about the way Natalie was cut four seasons ago.) They also don't give enough time to some dancers while giving too much to others. Some dancers are able to overcome that, but not all. With two-hour episodes, you'd think they'd be a little more even-handed in their coverage. Rating: 4 eyerolls I gave Tyce
June 24th, 2012, 9:19 p.m. - I guess someone performed a memory spell on me
21.5 The Magicians (Lev Grossman) (original post here)
Up next: The Magician King (Lev Grossman)
June 29th, 2012, 6:28 p.m. - Oh, there's Dareian
So You Think You Can Dance - Top 20 revealed: I really like this group. I will say that I would have put Feliciano through over Cyrus. I like Cyrus as a person, but what we saw of Feliciano was more impressive. Still, there are a ton of people here I'm rooting for: Dareian, Eliana, Will, Chehon, and Janaya in particular. I'm looking forward to seeing who's paired up. Rating: 4 cheers for the long-overdue return of Mia
A very interesting behind-the-scenes look at NBC in the '90s and early '00s. Don Ohlmeyer is a jerk.
A detective story with a twist, in that the missing woman is a Gypsy, and the detective investigating what happened to her is half Gypsy. This book has what's easily the least-guessable twist in recent literature.
The least appropriate book I have ever been unable to stop laughing at.
Toward the end of Gone Girl, a character tells one of the protagonists, "You two are the most f%$@ed-up people I have ever met." When I read this, I responded out loud, "Right??" Everyone in this book is messed up, and not in a fun way. In a really sick way. And a disappointing way, since I was really looking forward to this book. I found no one in it redeeming.
I'm glad I reread this before starting the sequel, because I forgot a LOT about it. Like...most of it. Oops!
