24. NOS4A2 (Joe Hill)
25. Bitter is the New Black (Jen Lancaster)
26. Jeneration X (Jen Lancaster)
27. Dad is Fat (Jim Gaffigan)
Up next: And the Mountains Echoed (Khaled Hosseini)
June 9th, 2013, 1:21 p.m. - Bring on the tough stuff!
So You Think You Can Dance - Memphis auditions: This is going to be a really, really good season. I just wish all the great dancers we've seen so far could make the top 20. Rating: 4 lucky pigs
June 15th, 2013, 6:12 p.m. - Not cool cutting Jennifer Jones, guys
So You Think You Can Dance - Vegas: Is there any doubt that Malece is going to make the top 20 (and possibly win the whole thing)? She's at the top of my list of potential finalists. Also on the list: Jenna, Amy, Jasmine Harper, Fik-Shun (who's KILLING IT), Jade, Curtis, Tucker, and maybe Alexis. I'm hoping we also get Mariah, the krumper who auditioned last year and who I keep spotting this season. I love her. Rating: 5 divas who always ruin group round for everyone
June 16th, 2013, 1:20 p.m. - "You will never say to yourself when you are old, Ah, I wish I was not good to that person. You will never think that"
28. And the Mountains Echoed (Khaled Hosseini)
Up next: The Round House (Louise Erdrich)
June 22nd, 2013, 12:04 p.m. - I mean...striptease!
29. The Round House (Louise Erdrich)
Up next: Eating the Dinosaur (Chuck Klosterman)
June 23rd, 2013, 12:58 p.m. - Let's go with some random thoughts
So You Think You Can Dance - Top 20 revealed:
Degrassi - "The Time of My Life": Hey, we haven't given anyone a possibly fatal illness in a while. Let's go with that plot! Sigh. Rating: 4 seconds Clare was allowed to be happy before being shuttled along to the next crisis
June 29th, 2013, 12:19 p.m. - Anyway...
30. Eating the Dinosaur (Chuck Klosterman)
Also, it was good. And now I'm excited for I Wear the Black Hat.
Up next: The Shadow Tracer (Meg Gardiner)
June 30th, 2013, 11:55 a.m. - Of course they paired Amy with Fik-Shun. Her nickname is Truth!
Whodunnit? - "High Voltage": I liked this so much more than I was expecting to. I thought it would be a rehash of Murder in Small Town X, but it was more like And Then There Were None plus The Mole. I love that the contestants have to both find clues and be strategic about who they share information with or get information from. It's not just about figuring out how each murder was committed; it's also about figuring out who you can trust. Speaking of which, I don't trust Melina. Either she's the killer or she's overacting for no reason. Rating: 4 slingshots
Under the Dome - "Pilot": I was looking forward to this series so much, and I wound up being really disappointed. I found all the changes from the book distracting. I won't be giving it a second shot. Rating: 3 bisected cows (ewwwwwww)
So You Think You Can Dance - Top 20 perform: I'm worried for Mariah. But the other nine girls are so freaking good (okay, eight plus Alexis...sorry, Alexis) that it'll be okay if she's cut first. I absolutely agree with the judges that the power couples are Jasmine Harper and Aaron, Jenna and Tucker, and Amy and Fik-Shun. But I'm also keeping an eye on Jasmine Mason, who I've liked since her original audition last season. This is a super-talented group of dancers, which means the eliminations are going to be painful every week. Rating: 4 lamps
Probably my favorite of Hill's novels, which is saying a lot, since I liked the other two, too. I hate to compare him to Stephen King, but I sometimes had to remind myself that this was Hill's book, not King's.
I read Lancaster's memoirs out of order, so it was nice to get the beginning of the story. I don't think I would like her very much if she hadn't gone through everything she details in this books.
Jeneration X is similar to My Fair Lazy, but better. Also, it includes monkeys riding dogs, so...yeah. Top that.
I wasn't actually familiar with Gaffigan before I read his book, but now I'll have to keep an eye out for his comedy. And hope that he makes enough money for a new place, because freaking A. Seven people in two bedrooms? No. Just no.
The best of Hosseini's three novels. It's melancholy, even depressing in places, but well-told.
It started out great, and then it went off on a bunch of tangents and felt too disjointed for me to keep up with. Then there was a completely random striptease, and I knew it had lost me forever. I'm not sure why everyone raved about this book. I read Erdrich's Love Medicine in college and liked it, so I was disappointed not to like this, too.
Rating: 5 times I said, "I don't think sand is really a good idea for a prop"
I read Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs years ago, and then kind of forgot about Klosterman for a while. Then I read he had a new book coming out this summer. Then I...forgot about him again. Then Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt of the new book, and I remembered how much I liked him. So I read Eating the Dinosaur, and here we are.
