June, 2022

June 8th, 2022, 8:14 p.m. - Sequel! I demand a sequel!

25. The Change (Kirsten Miller)
I want to read at least five books about these characters, especially Harriett and Jo. GIVE ME MORE, KIRSTEN MILLER.

Up next: Run Towards the Danger (Sarah Polley)

June 12th, 2022, 5:29 p.m. - Dear Canada, I hope you've improved your processes for overseeing child actors

26. Run Towards the Danger (Sarah Polley)
I feel kind of bad about being such a fan of Road to Avonlea when I was a kid, now that I know how miserable Polley was on the show. But the titular essay in this book shows how much she enjoys her life now and feels like a message saying she's past everything she's gone through and grateful for what she has.

Up next: Happy-Go-Lucky (David Sedaris)

June 19th, 2022, 5:41 p.m. - Oh, no, he's turning into a cranky old man!

27. Happy-Go-Lucky (David Sedaris)
I was thinking about doing a big Sedaris reread, and now I know that if I do it, I need to pay more attention to his stories about his father, because either I wasn't paying enough attention previously or he did a good job of hiding that HIS FATHER WAS A HORRIBLE PERSON. LIKE, HOLY CRAP, SO HORRIBLE.

Up next: Hairpin Bridge (Taylor Adams)

June 26th, 2022, 5:58 p.m. - Adams set the bar too high with No Exit and I can't expect him to ever surpass it again

28. Hairpin Bridge (Taylor Adams)
I really, really hated the structure of this, and the first half was kind of messy for me, but I liked the second half. Still, not the follow-up to No Exit that we as a people deserve.

Up next: Anthem (Noah Hawley)
