March, 2016
March 5, 2016, 1:33 p.m. - I should have read this on Halloween
6. The Boy Who Drew Monsters (Keith Donohue)
Up next: The Passenger (Lisa Lutz)
March 6th, 2016, 4:10 p.m. - "It's just bizarre enough to sound like it might be important, right?"
Teen Wolf – "The Beast of Beacon Hills": Save Mason! Do something useful, Argents! Otherwise, your return was pointless! Rating: 4 pistachio shells
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "Cheddar": The Rosa/Pimento stuff slayed me, as did Terry's reaction to it. To me, that was the best part of the episode. Except for the fact that Holt and Kevin have a dog called Cheddar. I mean...adorable. Rating: 4 binders
Modern Family – "I Don't Know How She Does It": I love the idea of Cam and Mitchell doing something they know embarrasses Lily. Why else have kids, you know? They probably learned that from Phil. Rating: 4 cans of tuna
Top Chef – "Back Where It All Started": I don't really have an opinion on Jeremy, but I'm happy to see Marjorie and Isaac in the finals. Here's hoping Karen gets to come back and join them. Rating: 3 mean fakeouts regarding Marjorie's fate
March 12th, 2016, 2:13 p.m. - "If you're going to calmly make excellent points then I don't know if I want to talk to you"
Teen Wolf – "Apotheosis": This episode doesn't make up for the disappointing season, but I was really happy that it was so good. And no one I care about died! Score! Rating: 4 initials still on the bookshelf
The Big Bang Theory – "The Application Deterioration": Who thought it would be interesting to watch people read contracts? Rating: 3 sextants
Top Chef – "Magic Hour": Ugh, I don't care anymore. I don't like Jeremy, and I don't care enough about Amar to watch and root for him. This season was bleh. Rating: 3 burned tongues
March 13, 2016, 7:54 p.m. - What did I JUST SAY?
7. The Passenger (Lisa Lutz)
Up next: Memory Man (David Baldacci)
March 19th, 2016, 2:09 p.m. - "First of all, I never said the cat was a burglar! I said he was an accomplice!"
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "Terry Kitties": Can we have kitties every week? Pleeeeeeease? Okay, if not, can we have Amy, Rosa, and Holt competing with each other every week? Rating: 4 unneeded wheelchairs
Modern Family – "The Cover-Up": The running joke that Phil is attracted to black women is so weird, but also kind of entertaining. Definitely more entertaining than a let's-boost-Claire's-ego subplot. Rating: 3 bikes
March 26, 2016, 2:29 p.m. - My first Baldacci! ...That's a milestone, right?
8. Memory Man (David Baldacci)
Up next: Fool Me Once (Harlan Coben)
March 27th, 2016, 3:34 p.m. - "Were you ever nice?" "1985. Worst year of my life"
Supernatural – "Safe House": So much to love here. I was really impressed with the transitions between the present-day scenes and the Bobby/Rufus scenes. I want a spin-off for them! Rating: 5 bottles of Johnnie Walker
Modern Family – "Express Yourself": Doesn't Cam have other siblings? Can we meet them instead of having to deal with his annoying sister? Rating: 4 mattresses
The story here is similar to others, but still entertaining. Donohue knows how to build a climax, unlike a lot of other writers I read.
Lisa Lutz, I usually love your books, but you need to read Keith Donohue and learn to WRITE A CLIMAX.
A fun, fast-moving book, a good one to pick up in an airport and keep you entertained for an entire flight. I'll probably read the sequel at some point, but maybe not for a while.
