May, 2015
May 2nd, 2015, 1:57 p.m. - "Lily, did you spill purple paint on the floor?" "Yeah, I'm the problem today"
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "AC/DC": I liked the B plots more than the main plot. I would have liked to see more of the dinner party. If they keep bringing Nick Cannon back, they'll need to give him more to do. Rating: 4 nicoise salads
Survivor – "Survivor Russian Roulette": Seriously, when did I start rooting for the guy who ate a scorpion? Rating: 5 buckets of water
Supernatural – "Angel Heart": I wasn't looking forward to another Claire episode, so I was delightfully surprised by how good this was. I would watch a spin-off of Claire, Krissy, and Alex learning to hunt, with guidance from Jody and Donna. Rating: 4 mini-golf games
Modern Family – "Integrity": I'm so glad they went back to the possibility of Cam and Mitchell adopting another child. I never got why they dropped that after that one season they kept pursuing it. Also, this was yet another episode reminding me why I love Alex. Rating: 5 orchids
The Big Bang Theory – "The Maternal Combustion": This was the opposite situation from this week's Supernatural – I was looking forward to this episode but didn't like it. Also, is Amy actually on this show anymore? Rating: 3 servings of macaroni and cheese with hot dogs
May 9th, 2015, 3:16 p.m. - "Despite what I've been saying for years, that a%$ just might quit"
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "Det. Dave Majors": I can't decide if I think they're actually going to put Jake and Amy together. It would be interesting to introduce a workplace romance to the show, but I'm not sure the show will take the risk of actually pairing up two of its characters, which is historically a bad idea on TV. I'm fine either way, as long as the show stays funny. Rating: 4 vests Terry accidentally ruined
Survivor – "Holding on for Dear Life": Keep it up, Mike. No one else deserves to win this. Rating: 3 toys for orphans
Supernatural – "Dark Dynasty": I'm kind of surprised that other people were surprised at Charlie's death. Like...that's what this show does. It kills off the good guys. We should be grateful that there are still some left. Rating: 4 bags of pork rinds
Modern Family – "Patriot Games": It would be really fun if Alex and Sanjay got together and their parents had to spend time together. And Alex would have another super-smart person to talk to! Rating: 4 pairs of American flag Daisy Dukes
The Big Bang Theory – "The Commitment Determination": But...nothing happened. So...what was the point? Rating: 3 engagement rings
Scandal – "A Few Good Women": So Rowan wants to kill Mellie? Is that what Foxtail's about? I won't stand for that. Excellent casting of Dan Byrd as the fake lawyer; I never would have expected him to turn out to be a minion of Rowan. Rating: 3 bruises
May 11th, 2015, 8:18 p.m. - "They're not that interesting"
14. The Interestings (Meg Wolitzer)
Up next: Bellweather Rhapsody (Kate Racculia)
May 16th, 2015, 1:24 p.m. - "Bingpot works. It's taking off"
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "The Chopper": Guys, I'm just so glad I started watching this show. I don't know what I'll do without it this summer. Rating: 4 portraits of Wuntch hanging over everyone's heads
Survivor – "My Word Is My Bond": Excellent Tribal Council, especially since one of the really annoying people went home. Let's hope Rodney's next. Rating: 4 melons
Supernatural – "The Prisoner": Dean kind of had to kill Cyrus, right? Because up until then, he'd only killed bad people. People kept saying Dean was getting worse, when it didn't seem true. Now he's absolutely worse. And I don't know what'll happen in the finale, but I don't think it'll be good. Rating: 3 angel blades not used to kill Cas
Modern Family – "Crying Out Loud": I've liked a lot of episodes this season, but this was a letdown. Gloria's interference in every aspect of Manny's life is SO OLD. And why do I care where Claire works? Rating: 3 scarves
Scandal – "You Can't Take Command": I honestly don't know if I'll be back for this next season. The way they "took" Rowan was so anticlimactic. Huck is out of control and I don't see Olivia putting up with it. I CAN'T STAND Fitz and Olivia together. Mellie got screwed by the writers for almost no reason. I have no use for Lizzie. The show needs a big turnaround. Rating: 3 false embezzlement charges
May 23rd, 2015, 1:31 p.m. - This just in: You can kill Death
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – "Johnny and Dora": I like the direction this is going. They're shaking things up a bit without changing too much. I still don't know how I'll survive the summer without this show, though. Rating: 4 oversized suit jackets
Supernatural – "Brother's Keeper": I was expecting something much more like the end of season 2 of Buffy, with the spell to get rid of the Mark working, but Sam having to kill Dean. I wouldn't have liked that, so this is okay. I know a lot of people were mad with this ending, but it worked for me. This is better than killing someone when we all know he's not going to stay dead. The Impala better be okay, though. Rating: 4 scythes
Modern Family – "American Skyper": I really like the addition of Andy. It's fun to see Phil interact with someone who's so much like him. It would be very interesting to see him and Haley together, because she's never been with anyone like him. By the way, did they really cast Horatio Sanz and not give him any dialogue? Weird. Rating: 4 picture keychains
11:06 p.m. - The girls who survived
15. Bellweather Rhapsody (Kate Racculia)
In other news, I've only read 15 books so far this year? What's wrong with me?
Up next: How to Start a Fire (Lisa Lutz)
May 27th, 10:12 p.m. - Make that 16 books this year
16. How to Start a Fire (Lisa Lutz)
Up next: The Three (Sarah Lotz)
Oh, hush, Dennis. Some of them are.
There are a lot of stories here, and they don't really work all together. Plus, the way things converged seemed pretty ridiculous. But I liked the writing, and Rabbit was a great character.
How to Start a Fire takes a little work, because it's not told in chronological order and you have to keep up with what's happened when, but it's worth it. I mean, I read it in four days. That tells you how much I liked it.
