October, 2003

October 1st, 2003, 12:01 a.m. - Boys are dumb

I KNOW there aren't boys skateboarding outside my window at midnight....

Dorks.

October 3rd, 2003, 1:06 a.m. - Baby, you can drive my car

Possibly the earliest I've ever had the Friday Five up:

1. What vehicle do you drive? A 2000 green Honda Civic.

2. How long have you had it? Since August of 2000. My baby's three years old!

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle? The CD player. It's especially nice on the two and a half hour drives from school to home and vice versa.

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle? You have to pull up on the driver's side door handle to lock it. It's irritating when I have a lot of stuff in my hands.

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now? Some kind of convertible. Maybe a Mustang. Those are pretty nice.

October 4th, 2003, 11:39 p.m. - And there was much rejoicing...yay

This is the first weekend of the semester that I have Internet access in my dorm! Woo hoo!

October 7th, 2003, 1:27 p.m. - Ack!

I'm very glad I don't live in California right now....

October 9th, 2003, 11:34 p.m. - Hi, Mom and Dad!

We're coming up on my last Homecoming/Parents' Weekend at school. That means I get a free meal tomorrow night. Woo hoo! Oh, and I get to see my parents. That, too.

October 10th, 2003, 12:53 a.m. - Sporty sporty

Friday Five:

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones? Oh, goody, sports. :) I watch ice skating and gymnastics. (I'm such a girl.)

2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes? I don't really pay attention to teams or specific athletes. I like Sarah Hughes, though.

3. Are there any sports you hate? Luge! Dawn and I had a big conversation about what a wussy sport it is.

4. Have you ever been to a sports event? I've been to a lot of baseball games, both minor and major league (many Orioles games and one Astros game).

5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play? Nope, didn't play on school teams, but I used to play tennis with my mom. I keep telling myself to bring my racket to school and find someone to play with but I keep forgetting.

October 13th, 2003, 2:36 p.m. - Hee hee hee

I'm a little out of it. I went to bed at midnight last night because I had to get up at 7 so my worship team could sing at a preview day at 8:15. However, I'm physically incapable of falling asleep before 1:30, so...I didn't. I woke up around 6, dozed for awhile, and got up at 7. Did you know that everything is funnier when you've only had about 5 and a half hours of sleep? Ask Lori. She knows. After we sang I went back to my room and dozed for another hour. So I'm a little more rested, but still a little...weird. I don't know. I'll probably go to bed early and still won't fall asleep until 1:30.

October 15th, 2003, 2:23 p.m. - Be gone, germs!

I managed to avoid getting sick when everyone else on campus was sick, but this morning I woke up with a slightly sore throat. So now I'm drinking orange juice like there's a prohibition and seeking out echinacea. I refuse to get sick! I will not succumb to the germs!

11:53 p.m. - Reprieve

False alarm. I don't think I'm sick. Yay!

October 16th, 2003, 2:48 p.m. - Just kidding

Darn it! I think I spoke too soon. Grrrr....

11:32 p.m. - Social butterfly

I usually don't have plans on Friday nights (I'm a dork), but tomorrow I, amazingly, have 2 different things to do! One is a get-together at Jenny's apartment for former Gallup B-ers and the other is...well, I'll tell you later. It's kind of a secret. :) Actually, I'm not sure if I'm doing the second thing; the person who's supposed to tell me what's going on hasn't told me yet. But I think it's funny that I have two places to be when there's usually nothing going on.

October 17th, 2003, 12:36 a.m. - The five obsession

Best Friday Five yet:

1. Name five things in your refrigerator. Wild Cherry Pepsi, water, cream cheese, a bottle of Pineapple Orange Banana Nantucket Nectar, and applesauce. (That's pretty much all that's in there.)

2. Name five things in your freezer. Ice cube trays. That's it. It's really tiny.

3. Name five things under your kitchen sink. I don't have one. At home, there are sponges and detergent.

4. Name five things around your computer. A mug of pens, a clock shaped like a duck, my phone, books, and stuffed animals.

5. Name five things in your medicine cabinet. Don't have one, but if I did it would contain bandaids, Advil, toothpaste, my toothbrush, and soap.

2:03 p.m. - Fire bad, tree pretty

I've known for awhile that I don't want to be a journalist, and now I have another huge reason why. Last night around 4 a car caught on fire in the parking lot near my dorm. Fortunately no one was hurt and everything was under control within about 20 minutes. But I saw two girls from the dorm who write for the school newspaper running across campus in search of a camera to take pictures of the fire for the paper. This offends me. Why is it that my thought process was, "I hope no one was hurt" and "How did this happen?" while theirs was, "Let's get a camera to take pictures of the fire so everyone will be able to see it"? If being a journalist means putting emotions aside and making the story, I don't want to be one.

October 20th, 2003, 12:18 a.m. - Birthday girl

Happy Birthday, Ravenna!

October 23rd, 2003, 11:19 p.m. - Yay!

I get to go home for the weekend tomorrow morning! Woo hoo!

October 29th, 2003, 8:26 p.m. - Jenn's about to lose control and she doesn't think she likes it

Okay, I'm trying REALLY hard not to lose my mind, but I'm not sure it's working. The ONE class I need to take next semester in order to a) complete my major and b) graduate is closed, and I can't get into it. I'm pleading with the professor to let me in, and I'm really hoping she lets me. They only offer this class in the spring; otherwise I would have taken it this semester and would be out of here. The weird thing is that last spring they offered 2 sections of the class because so many people were taking it, and this year they've closed the class after 9 people signed up. What the heck is that??? You don't close a class that people need for their major after fewer than a dozen people have gotten into it! Whose idea was this??

October 31st, 2003, 11:08 a.m. - Boo. Scary

Happy Halloween!

Friday Five:

1. What was your first Halloween costume? I think I was a pumpkin.

2. What was your best costume and why? I went as the Phantom of the Opera once. I thought that was pretty creative.

3. Did you ever play a trick on someone who didn't give you a treat? Uh, no.

4. Do you have any Halloween traditions? (ie: Family pumpkin carving, special dinner before trick or treating, etc.) We used to carve pumpkins, but I kind of grew out of that.

5. Share your favorite scary story...real or legend! My brother scared me by telling me the Legend of Sleepy Hollow when I was little. Thanks a lot, Paul.

2:14 p.m. - Yay!

Crisis averted. The professor let me into the class I need. :)
