September, 2019
September 1st, 4:47 p.m. - My main consolation right now is that people love Bailey and Mariah as much as I do
So You Think You Can Dance – "Top 8 Perform": I...may have teared up a little at the "You Will Be Found" routine. I will neither confirm nor deny. P.S. America, I will avenge Benjamin. Just wait. Rating: 4 weird rooftop structures
September 5th, 2019, 8:01 p.m. - I do want to be Nastya when I grow up, though
37. The Swallows (Lisa Lutz)
Up next: Because Internet (Gretchen McCulloch)
September 7th, 2019, 2:17 p.m. - Hey, the judges finally made a decision I agree with!
So You Think You Can Dance – "Top 6 Perform": This is a great final four. Any of them would be worthy of the title. I'm still pulling for Bailey or Mariah, but Sophie has held her own, and I always knew Gino would do well. Rating: 4 kisses, planned or otherwise
September 13th, 2019, 8:04 p.m. - Now someone explain what a VSCO girl is
38. Because Internet (Gretchen McCulloch)
Up next: The Warehouse (Rob Hart)
September 14th, 2019, 11:52 a.m. - Making it official
So You Think You Can Dance – "Top 4 Perform": Almost every year, the judges say that the final four is one of the best ever, but this year, it's true. I would like to formally back Bailey as the winner. Judging by the fact that the audience kept chanting his name, he has an excellent shot at winning. Rating: 5 eyerolls at the Mariah/Sophie routine, though
September 21st, 2019, 11:50 a.m. - At least if this stuff really happens, mass shootings will end
39. The Warehouse (Rob Hart)
Up next: Never Have I Ever (Joshilyn Jackson)
September 22nd, 2019, 3:42 p.m. - Mariah's going to be more employable anyway, so it's not really a loss for her
So You Think You Can Dance – "Finale": That was exactly the finish order I was hoping for. I would have been happy if Mariah had won, but Bailey's victory makes me even happier. H was just so likable! How could you not root for him? Rating: 4 supportive T-shirts worn by Bailey's awesome family
September 28th, 2019, 1:29 p.m. - "Sorry, go what myself? ...That's what I thought"
Modern Family – "New Kids on the Block": I thought there was something off about the Cam/Mitch stuff, so I liked the twist that it was just Cam messing with Mitch. Speaking of things I didn't expect, I can't believe there wasn't some sort of microphone wackiness, where Sherry overheard Manny and Gloria plotting. Rating: 4 clown figurines
Perfect Harmony – "Pilot": They jammed a lot into this episode. It could have been two episodes. I'll give it a least a couple more episodes, but I'm not as into it as I thought I would be. Rating: 3 butterflies
The Good Place – "A Girl from Arizona, Part 1": Simone was funnier in this episode than she was all last season. Let's keep that up. Rating: 4 cheese hats
Sunnyside – "Pilot": This was a very solid pilot. Kal Penn is perfectly cast in his role. But I think Joel Kim Booster and Poppy Liu are going to be the breakout stars here. Rating: 4 cabs with angry drivers
September 29th, 2019, 3:27 p.m. - Baby, there's a shark in the water
40. Never Have I Ever (Joshilyn Jackson)
Up next: The Institute (Stephen King)
There are some books you read quickly because you can't wait to see what happens. Then there are books you read quickly because you're bored and want to get through it so you can move on to something else. This is the second kind.
A little dry in spots, but super-informative. I should have taken a linguistics class in college. I think I would have loved it.
This was uneven. It starts out strong, but then it goes flat, and the run-up to the ending feels like it starts too soon. Interesting concept, though.
If I hadn't known this was a Joshilyn Jackson book, I wouldn't have guessed it. It could have used a few more thrills to be considered a thriller, but it's well told. I don't get why it's called Never Have I Ever, though. They don't play that!
