September, 2024

September 1st, 2024, 4:03 p.m. - I've really been slacking on reading nonfiction

35. The Year of Living Constitutionally (A.J. Jacobs)
This was really insightful and informative, with Jacobs' typical voice that makes complicated topics easier to digest. I think I'd read almost anything by him. I'd love to know what he has planned next.

Up next: If Something Happens to Me (Alex Finlay)

September 7th, 2024, 2:23 p.m. - Find me in the clouds

36. If Something Happens to Me (Alex Finlay)
This had some great twists. I just wish there had been more character development. Also, I had trouble keeping straight who was whose father. Too many dads!

Up next: This Is Why We Lied (Karin Slaughter)

September 16th, 2024, 8:04 p.m. - "How did I get an Agatha Christie locked-room mystery with a V.C. Andrews twist?"

37. This Is Why We Lied (Karin Slaughter)
At least 100 – maybe even 150 – pages too long, and all the jumping to conclusions isn't going to help the public's perception of cops. But there were some excellent twists, and a nice departure from the typical books in the Will/Sara series. However, I can't believe there was no pay-off to what I was sure was going to be a sexual realization on Faith's part.

Up next: We Solve Murders (Richard Osman)

September 22nd, 2024, 4:36 p.m. - "Sorry if I killed anyone you liked"

38. We Solve Murders (Richard Osman)
This started out a little confusing, and there were a lot of people to keep track of, but as always, Osman wrote a story that kept me entertained all the way through. I'm thrilled that he wrote in the acknowledgments that the characters will return (I assume that if he doesn't do another book in this series, they'll pop up in the Thursday Murder Club series). They were too good for a one-time appearance.

Up next: Here One Moment (Liane Moriarty)

September 29th, 2024, 4:41 p.m. - "Fate won't be fought"

39. Here One Moment (Liane Moriarty)
I was surprised to be as sucked into this story as I was (especailly since I didn't like Moriarty's last book much). I think there was too much stuff in the Cherry sections, and some of the little coincidences were like...Lost aired 20 years ago; let's not. But I really enjoyed the rest of it.

Up next: The Examiner (Janice Hallett)
