September 2nd, 2025, 5:06 p.m. - Howling for you

35. You Belong Here (Megan Miranda)
So slow in the middle, and I never felt a real sense of urgency. Have thrillers all gone soft? Am I the only one who remembers when they were actually thrilling?

Up next: We Are All Guilty Here (Karin Slaughter)

September 10th, 2025, 7:59 p.m. - I'm invested

36. We Are All Guilty Here (Karin Slaughter)
Slow in the middle and probably longer than it needed to be, but I liked the characters, and I enjoyed the police-procedural stuff more than I usually do. I'm glad Slaughter is using this as the start of a series. There's a lot to explore here.

Up next: This Book Will Bury Me (Ashley Winstead)

September 16th, 2025, 5:38 p.m. - I liked this, but...

37. This Book Will Bury Me (Ashley Winstead)
I've tried a couple of Winstead's books before and couldn't get into them, so my expectations for this weren't high. To my surprise, I enjoyed this a lot, and I'm going to try at least one of Winstead's other novels again. That said, I don't think she should have based the main crime in the book on a real-life triple murder. There are a thousand possibilities Winstead could have gone with instead. This one made me itchy.

Up next: The True Happiness Company (Veena Dinavahi)

September 21st, 2025, 4:21 p.m. - I knew people could be horrible, but freaking A

38. The True Happiness Company (Veena Dinavahi)
Dinavahi was very brave and strong to write about her experiences being controlled by what most people might not recognize was a cult. I really admire her for being so open. I'd love to read more from her.

Up next: In My Dreams I Hold a Knife (Ashley Winstead)

September 28th, 2025, 12:58 p.m. - I knew people could be horrible, but freaking A, part 2

39. In My Dreams I Hold a Knife (Ashley Winstead)
This was supposed to be a mystery about a ten-year-old unsolved murder, but it's actually a story of a bunch of college friends who are all terrible in different ways and should not associate with anyone other than each other. P.S. Shut up, Courtney.

Up next: Replaceable You (Mary Roach)
