October, 2026

October 3rd, 2026, 4:04 p.m. - Why did Pliego write this like everyone was British?

51. The Library After Dark (Ande Pliego)
This was a disappointing sophomore effort by Pliego. It felt needlessly complicated. It only got really interesting toward the end, and then I just wanted it to be over.

Up next: Time to Burn (Ellery Lloyd)

October 8th, 2026, 12:19 p.m. - Glitched

52. Time to Burn (Ellery Lloyd)
I didn't have big expectations for this going in, since I didn't really know what to expect, but I was delightfully surprised and impressed. This was well thought-out and plotted. One of my favorites from this year.

Up next: Sublimation (Isabel J. Kim)

October 14th, 2026, 10:55 a.m. - For instance

53. Sublimation (Isabel J. Kim)
Amazing concept, not-quite-as-amazing execution, but I still enjoyed it. I love how Kim weaved in other stories and folklore.

Up next: Freyja (Margrét Ann Thors)

October 18th, 2026, 4:33 p.m. - "Past is present and past is future"

54. Freyja (Margrét Ann Thors)
This was too slow for me. The mystery itself was interesting, but there was no way to solve it, which is a big problem for me. I'll probably forget all about this by the end of the year.

Up next: The Secrets We Hide (Karin Slaughter)

October 23rd, 2026, 11:45 a.m. - Will who?

55. The Secrets We Hide (Karin Slaughter)
I wasn't really excited about this (which is why I didn't seek it out when it was released) because I was hoping for another Will Trent book. But I wound up really enjoying this and looking forward to more in the series. If Cole joins the GBI, will we get a crossover?

Up next: Clean Slate (Brianna Labuskes)
